Doxycycline hyclate may damage testicular germinal epithelium in Wistar rats

Broad-spectrum antimicrobial doxycycline acts as an inhibitor of protein synthesis and it is widely used in the clinical treatment various infections by microorganisms that are sensitive to drug, well animal feed. Its liposolubility guarantees its high tissue bioavailability, being associated with several biochemical changes organism potentially adverse effects on reproduction. This study aims evaluate action spermatogenesis provide a complete analysis tubular interstitial compartments identify possible testicular parenchyma. Adult male Wistar rats were divided into three groups: one control (water), two treated at doses 10mg/kg 30mg/kg, for 30 days. After euthanasia sample processing, following parameters evaluated: a) diameter height seminiferous epithelium; b) volumetric proportions (%) volumes (mL) components parenchyma; c) counting germ cell populations; d) evaluation viability. The results comparative between experimental groups demonstrated significant increase area lumen reduction count spermatogonia group received hyclate dose 30mg/kg.
